Barbie heritage

barbieThe Zeeuws Museum quite recently underwent a thorough refurbishment. The old school museum made way for an innovative new concept where collection, art and fashion meet. Extensive explanations and information were abandoned in favor of visual language. Parts of the collection are only visible through media that present objects in an artistic way.
A good example of this is a medieval female statue that is shown next to a Barbie figure. A shame to some people, revealing the essence of their meaning to others. Personally I think that the almost total lack of information is too much, but the museum offers a very refreshing view on the role of a museum and at least it challenges visitors to make up their own mind. And that is something more museums could do.
